Chemical Laboratory Technician program will prepare trainees to perform routine laboratory functions to support various experiments and investigations. Trainees will have knowledge and skills to set up, test, adjust, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus. Trainees will be prepared to work in chemical laboratories and also with the with the chemists and engineers in research and development labs, oil industry labs, quality control and technical service labs, , educational institutions and government agencies.
Develop the skills necessary to perform chemical laboratory work accurately, efficiently and safely
Develop chemical techniques in the lab setting, including keeping detailed lab records, collecting and presenting precise and accurate data in useful formats.
Trainees will learn to use and check chemical analysis instruments and equipment to assure accurate results
Obtain the required English, Math, and Clerical skills necessary for the work environment
Express balanced chemical equations in proper inorganic nomenclature
Compare a range of analytical chemistry methods and explain the underlying theoretical principles
Understanding of the principles and applications of analytical chemistry
Apply knowledge of the principles of physics such as heat, sound, light, electricity and mechanics.
Apply knowledge of the principles of general chemistry such as nomenclature, acid/base theory, stoichiometric calculations and redox reactions.
Apply knowledge of organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry to chemical laboratory tasks.
Obtain an overview of common spectrophotometric instruments
Provides technical professionals with the written communication skills to structure and write effective reports confidently, competently, and persuasively
Explain and understand the chemical laboratory instruments.
Identify the various hardware components of each analytical instrument and describe their construction and function.
Use current concepts/ systems and technologies to support an organization’s business initiatives
Understand Use of chemicals and the equipment ensuring a safe, healthy environment.
Perform routine tasks and assigned procedures to support the purification, analysis and synthesis of chemical compounds and samples
Use prescribed laboratory procedures to conduct basic manual and instrumental quantitative analysis and report results
Implement health and safety practices to ensure a safe laboratory environment for oneself and others
Interpret and produce technical documents to communicate chemical laboratory data and result
Collaborate with others to contribute to effective working relationships and teamwork in chemical laboratory environment.
